Lately, WWE NXT has been the talk of the wrestling world again recently, but not for the reason WWE wants. They’re on the road to NXT Takeover 36, and just had a very good episode of NXT TV, but fans are more concerned about what is happening behind the scenes. 2021 has been a rough year as far as releases have gone, with numbers soon reaching triple digits. Recently, 13 names were released from NXT. Now we know the real reason for these cuts.
WWE Didn’t View These Names As Potential Stars On The Main Roster
From a report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, we would learn that these releases all come from Vince McMahon himself. After seeing Bronson Reed perform in dark matches and on WWE Main Event, he realized he didn’t see any potential for Reed as a main roster star. Therefore, why is he even in WWE? This was the same way that WWE looked at this for Bobby Fish, Mercedes Martinez, and Tyler Rust.
Despite being in active storylines on NXT, if they’re not gonna be worth anything on the main roster? Why keep them around. Even promising and highly regarded talents like Ari Sterling & Jake Atlas seemingly had no future in the eyes of the main decision makers within WWE, so they were cut as well. All talents have a 30 day non-compete clause as well, that being confirmed in the latest reports.
In a way, this is a good thing. We will hopefully not end up with failed call ups like Sanity, Angel Garza, Andrade, EC3, and more with this new mentality in place. WWE are only going to really take on people who they see potential in, names like Adam Cole being safe as WWE can see him as a star.
Triple H Didn’t Find Out Until The Talent Got The Calls
To make the situation even worse, the owner of NXT was kept completely in the dark about these releases. Triple H reportedly found out about these releases after John Laurenatis had already made the calls to let these talents know they’ve been let go. While there hasn’t been much word on the reaction of Triple H to this news, you have to imagine there is some frustration there.
Especially when it comes to a name like Bronson Reed, who Triple H has spent the past year really pushing as a star, even giving him a big win with the NXT North American Championship. There is a lack of security within WWE, especially with a lot of the NXT roster given these new standards. However, we can be assured now that those who rise to the top of NXT and are able to stay there are likely safe when it comes to main roster success.
