Conor McGregor leapt to Jose Aldo’s defense recently, responding to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s less-than-flattering assessment of Aldo’s comeback in the bantamweight division.
As is fast becoming Conor’s habit, he took to Twitter to express his disdain for Khabib. “This guy is still talking? Another press conference?
McGregor to Khabib: “All you do is talk like a b*tch”
You sh*t your pants of Cerrone your whole career. You pulled three times from [fighting] him. Your father, god rest his soul, could not believe his eyes the way I beat Cerrone. You disrespect Cerrone and now Aldo too? You ran away. Shut up.”
McGregor famously knocked Donald Cerrone out in forty seconds back in January 2020, which was widely billed as Conor’s own comeback. It was his first MMA win after losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov in what remains the UFC’s biggest-ever event. Khabib was unimpressed by this performance, telling RT Sport:
“A guy wins one fight and everyone starts talking. When Conor [McGregor] fought [Donald] ‘Cowboy’[Cerrone], he looked like a lion. When he fights stronger opponents, he looks like a scared chicken. Fighting top fighters shows your worth.”
Conor, however, is still looking to get under Khabib’s skin, by criticizing Nurmagomedov’s habit of failing to make weight or cancelling fights, and praising Jose Aldo.
“Another press conference? Haha for what? You are doing a whole load of nothing mate. You and Cerrone were locked in to fight since way back and you never had the courage. You ran away and now all you do is talk like b*tch. Aldo is 100 times the fighter you are, and ever will be.”
In the same RT Sport interview, Khabib said of Aldo: “Let him fight Petr the same way. Then we can say he’s peaking again. You saw what he did.
He closed up and waited for the ref to stop the fight. That shows that you’re not at your peak. If you’re getting hit and you’re conscious and you’re not defending yourself, I call those fighters businessmen. They come out to make money.”
Khabib is clearly unimpressed by money-making endeavors among professional fighters, particularly those of well-heeled millionaire Conor McGregor.
McGregor remains sidelined by the gruesome leg break he sustained fighting Dustin Poirier on July 10. His road to recovery promises to be a long one, but while he won’t be entertaining us in the Octagon anytime soon at least Conor’s Twitter antics show no sign of abating.
Do you agree with Khabib, or is Conor right this time? Let us know in the comments.
