When Kay Lee Ray made her return to NXT at NXT Takeover 36, she was hoping to jump right to the top of the division. However, former NXT Women’s Champion Ember Moon has a few things to say about that. Tonight, she will show that KLR can’t just walk in and run the division, as she seeks to take out the former NXT UK Women’s Champion in the ring tonight.
Ember Moon Gets Her Arm Targeted
Moon would step right up to KLR and take her down with a side headlock takeover. KLR would counter into a tight headscissor hold, before Moon broke free. A big armdrag and a single leg dropkick would get Moon a one count, before a Booker T style side kick. In the corner, KLR would slip away and go after the arm of Moon, snapping it over the top rope.
Back in the ring, KLR would hit a big arm wringer, before slowing the pace down for a big facebuster. She’d corner Moon and attack the left arm some more, before going for a cross armbreaker. Briefly getting the full extension, Moon would feel the pain and have to counter into a roll up to get a two count.
A desperate flying codebreaker would get a two count, and Moon could follow up by going back into the crossface in the middle of the ring. KLR would be able to break free before ending up in a Triangle Choke. Fighting free again, she’d slam Moon into the corner to get a chance to retake control.
IKay Lee Ray Gets Moon Down
Throughout the picture-in-picture break, KLR would manage to stop multiple comeback attempts, before grounding Moon and continuing to target the arm. Coming back in, Moon would take an armbreaker, before getting an inside cradle for a two count. A big superkick to the jaw would piss Moon off, who’d catch KLR in the Tree of Woe before a kick right to the side of the head.
KLR wouldn’t be phased and hit a big springboard tornado DDT to keep things moving. A suplex attempt saw Moon counter and send KLR to the outside before a wild suicide dive. Moon went up to the top rope in the ring, taken down by a snapmare. KLR would come off the top with a Swanton Bomb, but only got a two count.
Moon blocked a superkick and hit the Turbo Backpack for a two count of her own. It was gonna take a major blow to end this match, but they’d both try for roll ups before KLR got Moon into the Gory Bomb for the win. The Gory Bomb is deadly, and this was proof.
A fast paced and high impact match between two of the best wrestlers NXT has right now. KLR showed why she was a forever champion in NXT UK, and Moon learned to not mouth off to someone like KLR. Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
