Last night was the end of an era in NXT, even if the show didn’t feel like it. They’re moving away from their the Black & Gold aesthetic, coming in with something more colorful for the logo, Wale for the theme song, and a focus on younger talent incoming. However, despite what many fans believed, the show didn’t end with Vince McMahon & Bruce Pritchard rolling in and saying they’ll save the brand. Instead, it ended with two huge matches set for next week, as they look to step forward into a new era in the right way.
Four Of NXT’s Best Enter A Fatal Four Way For A Shot At NXT Champion Samoa Joe
In a match that really soothed the anxieties of many fans, we’re seeing a star filled Fatal Four Way match. The winner will be the first challenger for Samoa Joe’s third NXT Championship reign, and consists of Tommaso Ciampa, Pete Dunne, LA Knight, and Kyle O’Reilly. Last time we had a match like this in NXT it was excellent, but the ending was ruined by Adam Cole.
Adam Cole is now in AEW, and we will get a winner. Any man in the field could be a solid first challenger for Samoa Joe, but most expect LA Knight to get the win. Ciampa, O’Reilly and especially Dunne are Takeover level matches for Samoa Joe, while Knight fits a TV main event very nicely. He’s someone who can talk up a big match, and make a satisfying first defense for Samoa Joe.
Franky Monet Looks To Win The NXT Women’s Championship From Raquel Gonzalez
The other huge match is the biggest test yet for NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez. She’s managed to defend against Mercedes Martinez, Dakota Kai, and Xia Li so far. However, none of them are La Wera Loca. With the help of Robert Stone, Franky Monet has her one on one shot for the NXT Women’s Championship next week on NXT TV.
Monet & Gonzalez are both powerhouses, but you can argue that Monet is the finished article of what Gonzalez hopes to be. She might lose out a bit on power – but has a major experience and speed edge. This is going to be a close match either way, but Monet could be champion very soon.
