It will be a classic battle of power vs. speed as Dante Martin goes toe to toe with Powerhouse Hobbs. Dante Martin has been riding a wave of momentum after going toe to toe with Kenny Omega in a tag team match, and even got on the cover of this year’s PWI 500 in the process. However, all the speed in the world will mean nothing if Hobbs gets his hands on him, so tonight he needs to keep on moving. Even worse, Hobbs was fired up by CM Punk just before this match got started, so Martin has an angry Hobbs ready to tear him apart.
Powerhouse Hobbs Shows That Power Can Beat Speed
Hobbs would grab Martin quickly, and while he’d dodge a German Suplex, a body block crushed him. Martin would bounce off the ropes, for a crossbody and was caught. He’d manage to fight Hobbs to the outside, where a suicide dive was caught, and he was swung into the ring post.
A toss into the barricade kept the beating coming, before Hobbs just threw Martin through the ropes from the floor. Some crossface blows, and a scoop slam would follow, before a release style Jackhammer. Martin would be trapped in a bearhug, a simple but deadly hold when it’s applied by Powerhouse Hobbs.
He was thrown to the mat, and Hobbs drove his knee into the midsection before some more punches to the face. A running knee drop missed, and Martin would hit big shotgun dropkick off the top rope before a running swanton bomb. Martin hit a running pump kick sending him to the outside, but HOOK got in his way. He’d just jump over him, and land right on Hobbs. Hobbs took two enzuguris and a springboard pumpkick, before the Last Will & Testament spinebuster for the win.
This one was looking like Spider-Man vs. Rhino out of the gate in terms of powers and style. It was a great match of it’s style, with Hobbs & Martin both being something special. Martin looked good for his fight, but Hobbs has bigger things coming. Match Rating: 3.25/5 (*** 1/4)
