Prince Charles has been looking back at the life of the late Prince Philip in a recent documentary entitled ‘Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers.’
Prince Charles Recalls His Last Conversation With Prince Philip
Philip left behind a huge legacy and a void to fill when he passed away at the age of 99. During that time, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had also distanced themselves from the Royal family with their Oprah Winfrey interview.
But in the face of hard times, Charles found some comfort when he recalled the last conversation he had with Philip before his passing. And even in those moments, Philip was fighting until the end as he was looking forward to his 100th birthday.
During the documentary, Charles said how he had to repeat himself to Philip due to the latter’s bad hearing. He said: “We’re talking about your birthday.
“We’re talking about your birthday and whether there’s going to be reception!” And in keeping with how Philip was remembered, his response was certainly one to remember.
Philip was known for being very witty, even if it did cross the line on certain occasions, which raised question marks over his use of language. But this response showed just how focused he was on getting better.
He apparently replied: “Well, I’ve got to be alive for it, haven’t I?” But it is not just Charles who remembered Philip very fondly. The same could be said for Prince William too.
He spoke on how crucial Philip was in carrying the monarchy throughout the years and how it allowed William to be prepared for the role he is carrying out today.
Not only that, Philip was instrumental in teaching the next generation of Royals over how to conduct themselves, which included Prince George and Queen Elizabeth’s other grandchildren too.
In the same documentary, William remarked: “He’s always been a huge presence behind everything we’ve done, really. What you see is what you got with my grandfather. He was unapologetically him.”
Philip will be remembered for years to come, and there will never be anyone quite like him. But given that he had created so many memories, his missing presence will certainly be felt.
