Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey on CBS failed to pick up an award at the 2021 Emmys.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Oprah Winfrey Interview Fails To Win An Emmy
The interview had been shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series’ category but lost out to Stanley Tucci’s series entitled, ‘Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy.’
While there may have been some disappointment amongst the couple, it was not surprising given the scrutiny that the award would have generated.
In the interview, Meghan had dropped two of the biggest bombshells in Royal history. Not only did she claim that her son Archie was subjected to comments expressing concerns over the colour of his skin, but Meghan also stated that she was driven to the thought of suicide.
An award, here, would have validated those claims. Despite the failure to win an award, the ceremony’s host, Cedric the Entertainer, saw things in a funnier light.
Rather than dealing with the seriousness of the allegations brought up by the interview, he merely tried to evoke some laughter out of it. The response to his comments, though, was split.
In his comments, he remarked: “Meghan must put it on that boy [Archie] because he renounced his throne quicker than Eddie Murphy in Coming to America.
“I can’t believe they were talking about little Archie. How dark that little baby gonna be.” And with the Royal family needing an injection of vibrancy, Cedric sought to stir things up by suggesting that Archie was needed to shake things up.
After all, if Prince George is going to take on more Royal duties, then why can’t it be the same for Harry’s kids. Cedric, in raising this point, though, merely made flippant remarks.
He added: “They need little Archie! Charles can’t dance. Who else going to teach them how to TikTok? I can just see it now, baby Archie with the queen, like come on, Gammy.”
The Oprah interview may not have won anything, but it did leave behind a lot of talking points that divided the public across the world. And in doing so, we can say that it has shown that the Royals are not perfect.
