Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and we are closing in on a pretty damn crazy weekend of wrestling. The long talked about NXT main roster invasion has finally happened over the past few weeks, and we’ve been led to a truly unique couple of shows. Rounding out the weekend, WWE Survivor Series 2019 is upon us, and it’s set to be a very unique show to say the very least. It’s a three way war, with Raw vs. SmackDown vs. NXT! Plus, three very interesting world title matches will be taking place as well.
Regardless of what you think of the build, the card itself looks incredible. It should be a surreal experience seeing these bouts come to head. And I’ll be doing a match by match preview for the whole show, so let’s get to it!
WWE United States Champion AJ Styles vs. WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong (Non-title)
This event is primarily built around matches like this, pitting equivalents from the three brands against one another in a three way spectacle. And make no mistake, this one really oughta be a spectacle. In fact, assuming it gets the time it requires, there’s actually no reason this won’t absolutely steal the show. And with a card like this, that would really, really be saying something.
AJ Styles, I probably don’t have to tell you, is widely regarded as among the best wrestlers in the world and has been for a very, very long time. Shinsuke Nakamura while rarely giving his all is a remarkable talent when he wants to be and his charismatic presence is always a fun addition to any match. Roderick Strong is a guy I’ve always considered to the be the most underrated performer in NXT. He’s been extremely consistent in putting on great matches, he’s a deceptively hard hitting powerhouse that can move like a bullet train when a match gets hot enough.
It’s just thinking of the sequences we might see here. AJ could single out the legs of both opponents to roll into a double Calf Crusher. Shinsuke’s Kinshasa might be ducked by one man only to land in the face of another. Roddy can break his spot of hanging both men in the ropes, and rushing back and forth at lightning speed delivering drive-by elbows to each man’s face time and again.
It’s hard to call these given the premise of the event.
At the moment we have five matches of this ilk, and if that stands, it means in order for any side to win, they need to take atleast three of these matches. You wouldn’t wanna bury any of these brands (although they sure did it to SmackDown last year…) particularly NXT as that would not do well for the Wednesday Night War. That said, AJ Styles is as logical a winner as you’ll find, given how much higher on the totem pole he generally is compared to the others.
WWE Survivor Series 2019 will be airing this Saturday on the WWE Network at 7 PM Eastern Time, 6 Central. There will also be a two hour pre-show leading into the event. The show emanates from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, and I will be giving you a live play by play of the show as it happens. Stay tuned!
