Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here and we are closing in on a pretty damn crazy weekend of wrestling. The long talked about NXT main roster invasion has finally happened over the past few weeks, and we’ve been led to a surreal couple of shows. First we have NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019. It’s a big show, in spite of only having four matches due to the length expected from the double WarGames encounters. I’ll be doing a match-by-match preview for the whole card, so let’s get to it!
Pete Dunne vs. Damian Priest vs. Killian Dain
This is some pretty big stuff here. Dunne has had issues and big matches with Dain and Priest over the past few weeks, including a couple of main event bouts. Recently it finally broke out into a big three-way war. There have been some awesome encounters up to this point and this will assuredly be no different. Actually, it’s basically guaranteed to take it up another notch with all three men in play, a big TakeOver atmosphere and some pretty big stakes to boot.
Pete Dunne is a rough and tumble British-style wrestler with a healthy dose of technical prowess. He’s known for joint manipulation and snapping fingers and has been in a ton of high level matches since joining WWE at the start of 2017.
Damian Priest is a unique athlete to say the least. A tall man with very long legs, it’s always wild seeing him fly around with his spider-like body. He’s also exceptionally powerful, something he should have a great chance to show off here. This will be his first TakeOver match. A relatively recent addition to NXT, he was largely partaking in squashes before seeing his first program with Dunne commence. So this is quite the opportunity for him to show out on a much bigger stage then he’s accustomed to.
Killian Dain is, of course, the biggest man in the match and one of the heaviest guys in NXT. Of course being a modern heavyweight, he’s also a killer athlete. With these two to work with, he’s likely to have a great showcase in his own right. This is likely the biggest match of his career up to this point, given what’s at stake.
The winner of this match faces Adam Cole for the NXT Championship the next night at Survivor Series.
It’s gonna be a hell of a weekend for whomever wins this match. Given that stipulation, I can only realistically see Pete Dunne taking this. He’s the most viable challenger, and a very special, protected figure in NXT. It’s fitting to give him that kind of spotlight on a major WWE show. Also he’s the only babyface in the match so that helps matters as well…
NXT TakeOver: WarGames 2019 will be airing this Saturday on the WWE Network at 7 PM Eastern Time, 6 Central. There will also be a half hour pre-show leading into the event. The show emanates from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, and I will be giving a live play-by-play of the show as it happens.
