Just a few short years ago, Tessa Blanchard looked like the future of professional wrestling. One of the most talented young wrestlers regardless of gender, she was even able to become the first ever female Impact Wrestling World Champion. Then, everything came tumbling down.
In what looked like a coordinated attack by anyone she’s ever rubbed the wrong way, accusations of backstage bullying and racist actions flooded in from all angles. It became far too much to ignore, Impact Wrestling stripped her of the championship – and she’s only wrestled a single match on the indies since. However, now Tessa Blanchard is set to return to the ring – and has signed with a promotion.
Tessa Blanchard To Be Involved In Relaunch Of WOW: Women Of Wrestling
However, said promotion is not AEW or WWE like some were hoping. Instead, she will be involved in the relaunch of WOW: Women Of Wrestling. This promotion last ran in 2019, where it aired on AXS TV. Tessa is no stranger to this brand, being a former top champion there. This makes her a low risk addition, even with her bad attitude.
There is still very little information on tap about this relaunch, but they are set to run a press conference later this week on Wednesday. The promotion has potentially big financial backing, being owned by Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss. Many names have been contacted to join the project, but Tessa is the first to accept a deal at this time.
The return of Tessa Blanchard to the ring will surely bring a mixed reaction. Some want her to never be seen again, while others feel she deserves a second chance. Ignoring her reputation, you can’t find a better talent to build a company around – as it’s hard to deny she carries herself like a star. Add in a wrestling legacy containing Tully Blanchard and Magnum TA, and she is a total package of youth, skill and legacy.
However, when you bring her in – you immediately lose at least a fraction of possible fans, and even potential workers. If it’s big enough to risk her is yet to be seen.
