It feels like WWE and AEW competition is just heating up. The rating war between AEW Dynamite and NXT was always going to have AEW win because it was their main show.
However, AEW Rampage is going up against Smackdown for the first time. Smackdown has an extra half an hour that is going head to head with the first half of Rampage. But WWE is showing signs of worry with them pulling out a lot of stops for AEW to come on top.
Smackdown extra half an hour is ad-free
Smackdown has announced that the extra half an hour is going ad-free. This is clear to be a massive advantage for Smackdown in the last half hour and shows that they are taking this competition seriously.
It feels as if Smackdown thought they could win easily in the last half an hour. They wouldn’t do this. However, the competition feels like it is really heating up and could bring the best out of both companies.
Who could win this?
On a normal Friday, Smackdown would be the clear winner. However, Rampage would take a chunk out of the normal viewership. It’s very unlikely Rampage would win, especially with the recent viewership drop. Smackdown is taking the short straw here.
However, with Smackdown changing channels for the Friday night episode. If we look at the past, any WWE or AEW show massive drops in viewership if they change channels for the night. Friday’s viewership will be very interesting and could be the start of a new era of competition between both companies.
