That is according to Paul Burrell, who happened to be the former butler to the late Princess Diana. The reason why Paul feels this way is because he sees the couple as using their Royal connection for fame.
Therefore, rather than leaving quietly, they want to garner as much publicity as possible to further their careers. This has been seen through their financial moves since leaving the Royals.
The duo have signed a deal with Netflix worth a reported $100 million, and Harry is set to release a memoir in 2022 detailing his experience in the Royal family.
All this has been done at the expense of the Royals who had given them a platform for so long. In an interview with Closer magazine, Paul said: “No one knows what really goes on behind closed doors.
“And so when Harry and Meghan share a glimpse into that life, it’s shocking and scandalous, and people love to hear it. It’s juicy gossip, and it’s what makes them interesting.”
It is true that the Royal family has kept them relevant, but for Paul, that is the be-all and end-all. He does not see a possibility that Meghan and Harry will be able to have such influence without the Royals.
Therefore, the pair are using the Royal name while claiming to be free from them. And that is something that Paul sees as being unforgivable.
He added: “In reality, they’ll always be chained down by the fact that being royal is the only thing that makes them interesting.
“And in playing on these connections, they are stabbing Harry’s family in the back and deepening the rift.” Regardless of what Paul thinks, it is clear that Harry and Meghan are only concerned with themselves.
If they can do that without disrupting the image of the Royal family, then more power to them. And on current reading, they have managed to do what they set out to achieve: live a life of independence.
