Hours before Josh Alexander challenges Christian Cage for the Impact World Championship, we’re set for a great night of wrestling at Bound For Glory.
We also got to thinking about why Alexander should win the Impact world title, and there are better reasons than we expected.
It’s important to give a nod of appreciation to Christian for coming back to Impact Wrestling with the championship.
Though he’s not technically part of Impact Wrestling, it’s easy to tell he loves Impact and wants to do the best he can for the company and the fans.
We hate to think of it this way, but he feels more like a transition champion between Kenny Omega and an Impact wrestler, which in this case may be Josh Alexander.
Bringing it home
It could be for various reasons for Christian to have won the title, and the biggest is, in our opinion, after Omega defeated Sami Callihan Impact didn’t have anyone built up to challenge Omega.

By having an old Impact (TNA) star take the title from Omega, it gave us a chance to see Christian where many of us think he should be once again, and then drop the title to Impact’s newest star.
Josh Alexander became something beyond awesome during his X-Division Championship run, and now he’s ready to take the mantle and lead Impact Wrestling into a new era.
More than mirror images
As Alexander has pointed out numerous times, he and Christian are mirror images of each other. He also reminds us of Bret Hart in a lot of ways, and he seems to be on a similar trajectory.
While there’s only one Christian and Bret, Alexander is made up of both of them to give us a complete package.
But there’s more to it than that.
Christian has been flirting with heelish tendencies by insulting and belittling Alexander to push him over the line to make mistakes.
It’s also smart in many ways as realistically speaking, it could for Alexander to make mistakes. But in this case, it’s subtlety putting Alexander over with fans to help get us invested in him and his potential win.
Christian’s so good at dishing it out we barely notice what he’s doing, and Alexander has quietly solidified himself as the potential bully slayer.
In the end, tonight’s match feels like it’s going to be a passing of the torch moment as Christian will hand the reigns over to the next generation and help set Alexander up for his first run as Impact World Champion.
What do you think about Christian passing the torch to Alexander? If he the right choice to take over? Let us know below in the comments.
