Few wrestlers have had as much impact on the modern wrestling style than Petey Williams. Simply by the innovation of the Canadian Destroyer, the flipping piledriver maneuver used by everyone including Bad Bunny, Williams has become someone every indie wrestler has to have some amount of respect for. Aside from this one move, he was in the room for the iconic Steiner Math promo in TNA Wrestling, and “Maple Leaf Muscle” has wrestled many incredible matches over his twenty year career. However, he might be looking to hang up his boots – as he was around in WWE recently looking for a job as a producer.
Petey Williams Has Been Working Backstage At WWE For A Few Weeks In A Try Out Process
Over the past few weeks, Williams has been working in this role at WWE in a try-out type manner. This is a common practice, as WWE will let names like Williams or recently Molly Holly try their hand at the job. The only way to prove you can do it is by simply doing it, and WWE understands this. Producers generally help put together matches and segments with the talent, with Michael Hayes, D’Von Dudley & Tyson Kidd being a few names who have done it on a very consistent basis.
You put a good producer alongside some good talent, and oftentimes you will get a very good match. Heck, if a producer is good, they can make anyone look like a star with some careful planning. It is unclear what talent Williams has been working with, and if it’s even for major shows like Monday Night RAW or Smackdown Live. He might even just be helping with dark matches or with Main Event – which come with lower stakes.
Another name who has been in the same role is Jimmy Wang Yang, who has been working as a producer since the October 25th episode of Monday Night RAW. It’s unclear if he’s got a full-time job or is trying it out like Williams, but it’s always nice to see Jimmy Wang Yang’s name in the news. Seriously such an underrated name, and a fun gimmick for it’s time.
