As far as undercard names go in WWE right now, few have more potential to rise up the card than Angel Garza. A third generation wrestler, this talented luchador is already a former NXT Cruiserweight Champion, and tag team gold alongside Humberto Carillo on Smackdown Live could be within grasp within the next year. He was also someone who was far from surprised when he got drafted to Smackdown Live alongside his tag team partner, thanks to a keen eye and knowledge on how WWE runs their shows.
Angel Garza Knew Smackdown Live Would Have Some Latinos
While speaking to WWE Espanol, Garza would reveal that he was able to correctly guess where his new home in WWE was after a few draft picks were made. Rey Mysterio & his son Dominik as well as Zelina were sent to Monday Night RAW, and Damien Priest had stayed on the brand as United States Champion.
“We noticed that Rey & Dominik went to Raw and saw Zelina move too and we thought SmackDown was staying without Latinos, and 2 things were going to happen: or we were getting drafted over there or Damian Priest was leaving Raw. Us two were with Damian and we were saying ‘or you leave or we leave’ and then we saw Damian was drafted to Raw and we were 99% certain we were going to SmackDown because there were no Latinos at the moment.”
What About Gran Metalik?
WWE recognizes the Latin America market as a major one, and will always do their best to have someone on hand to keep things steady. One notable piece missing from this puzzle however was Gran Metalik. Metalik asked for his release recently in WWE, but was shot down – before not being involved in the WWE Draft at all. He remains undrafted, and if Garza is to be believed here, that was not unintentional.
Right now, Metalik’s status is up in the air, but he recently changed his profile picture to reflect his time in CMLL – where he held CMLL Super Light, Welter, and Trios as well as Mexican National Trios gold all at once. Between clearly not being even an option in the WWE Draft and this change, we can’t be shocked if news breaks of another WWE release within 2021.
Will Angel Garza & Humberto Carillo make an impact on Smackdown Live? Could we see Gran Metalik released from WWE soon? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
