This has been the year of Jeff Cobb in NJPW. From his incredible match with Shingo Takagi over the NEVER Openweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom, to his stadium matches with Kazuchika Okada, to his history making run in the G1 Climax? It’s been the best year of his career. Things are looking to continue that way, as he makes his way to NJPW Battle in The Valley – and has picked up some extra dates along the way, leading to his return to MLW at War Chamber.
MLW Set For Some Major Shows & Tapings In The 2300 Arena
This was announced by MLW’s CEO Court Bauer as he was hyping up the coming tapings and their War Chamber show in Philadelphia. They’re taking over the 2300 Arena, better known to fans as the ECW arena. MLW has a lot of the same DNA as ECW, as back in 2003 they used a lot of their talent and crew to run shows. Now things can come full circle, and Court has big plans for their time there – stating the following while speaking with Digital Journal.
“It’s a huge FUSION TV taping,” he said. “We’re bringing the War Chamber to Philly for the first time ever. Fans will see CONTRA and MLW’s top wrestlers clash in their final battle inside a cage. This is going to be a big one. Plus, history will be made as the oldest tournament in wrestling, the Opera Cup is decided. We will also see the vacant National Openweight Championship decided as well as some new faces entering the mix, like NZO and Jeff Cobb.”
Cobb last worked MLW in 2018, having matches with names like Matt Riddle & Tom Lawlor.
Could Jeff Cobb Also Return To All Elite Wrestling For Full Gear?
With Cobb set to be in the United States without much to do with NJPW beyond Battle in the Valley and the Detonation in Riverside tapings – there is a good chance for him to make his way around. One place that fans would love to see him back at is AEW. He made one appearance there in 2019, facing Jon Moxley as an assassin for The Inner Circle.
With Full Gear approaching, and AEW set to clash with American Top Team – we could even see Cobb enter that feud on either side. Lord knows he’d be better to watch on PPV than Jake Hager, and having American Top Team eliminate the sole MMA fighter in Inner Circle would make sense in the storyline.
Aside from that, even bringing him in for an exhibition match would be amazing, as Cobb is just on a roll – and Tony Khan would be wise to try and capitalize on his time stateside.
