On the latest episode of NXT 2.0, we got a tease that made fans of the classic NXT brand they knew and loved exciting. Tommaso Ciampa was out cutting a promo, and was met by NXT North American Champion Carmello Hayes. Seeing as Johnny Gargano was set to face Hayes in the main event with tag team action, the paths of Ciampa & Gargano would cross – and Ciampa held his NXT Championship close as his old rival eyed it. This tease might have been just that though, if Ciampa is to get his way.
Tommaso Ciampa Fears Johnny Gargano
While working a WWE tour in the UK with matches against Sami Zayn & Bron Breakker, Ciampa would find some time to speak to the media. Talking with Planeta Wrestling, we’d hear his thoughts on working with his old D.I.Y partner once again – saying the following.
“No. Like right now? No. He’s not on the top of my list, I like keeping my title, ‘stay away from me,’ he can go and get the North American Title.”
This is the best possible response, simply delaying the potential match – while confirming something fans already knew. Ciampa fears Gargano, he knows the rookies of NXT 2.0 aren’t a threat – but Gargano knows his playbook, and how to defeat him. No one in NXT 2.0 can give him the fight that Gargano can, and therefore – he does not want to face him.
Should The Feud Be Left Concluded?
The thing about the program between Gargano & Ciampa is that it was brought to a close in 2020. They wrestled one brutal hardcore match in terms of singles action – before again meeting in a four way ironman match for the NXT Championship. That ironman match was more of just a bonus to their feud, and many fans were happy with this.
Others lament the fact that fans didn’t get to see their final match in person. Injuries prevented their storyline from ending properly, and then COVID-19 meant no one got to see their final clash. One more match would be perfect to close things out in WWE, especially as Gargano could be gone from the company come January.
