When Tommaso Ciampa reclaimed the NXT Championship after having to let it go due to injury years ago, he knew he would have a hungry roster gunning for him. However as NXT 2.0 unveils new stars, only Bron Breakker was hungry enough to step up. He’s beaten LA Knight, and teamed with Ciampa for two tag team victories – but tonight at NXT Halloween Havoc?
Breakker has to try to take that NXT Championship from Ciampa, and no one has ever done that before. He’s not going to outsmart Ciampa, he’s got too much experience. But this is no chess match, it’s a slugfest and Breakker is a genetic freak. It’s veteran vs. rookie, a classic story and one that favours neither man.
The End Of The Black & Gold Era?
Ciampa as champion is the only thing that really stands from the old NXT. He comes out dressed as Kratos from God of War, and that’s fitting for the style of Ciampa. Breakker better be ready to do what few can, and that is beat Big Match Ciampa. Even WALTER had issues doing this, and Ciampa bleeds Black & Gold.
Ciampa started this one with a lock up, and Breakker drove him right to the rope. Breakker would apply a headlock, and Ciampa sent him off the ropes before being rammed to the outside with a shoulder tackle. Back into the ring, Ciampa would land on his feet out of a toss and apply a side headlock. Breakker was able to grapple his way free, and hit another shoulder tackle.
Ciampa tried to drop down as Breakker ran the ropes, only to be grabbed and slammed down. A few more shoulder tackles would come, before Ciampa dodged a diving variant and applied a waist lock. Breakker was taken into the corner and took a chest splitting chop, before coming back with a big slam as we went to a commercial break.
Back from the break, Ciampa had beaten Breakker into a corner and was relentless with the strikes. Breakker took a knee strike to the face and Ciampa gave himself a pat on the back before a double axe handle to the back. He’s never been in deep water like this, while Ciampa is right at home.
You Don’t Beat Tomasso Ciampa When The NXT Championship Is AT Stake
A bell clap to the ears would do little to stun Breakker who would nail a belly to belly suplex. Having a chance to breathe helped him, but he’d leave his comfort zone and go to the middle rope and slipped down onto his face. He wanted the Steiner Bulldog – and that wasn’t going to happen.
A jumping shoulder tackle sent Ciampa to the floor, and Breakker was taking deep breaths now. He’d lift Ciampa into the ring and take Willows Bell for a two count. Ciampa would nail some knee strikes before being caught with a Frankensteiner and a Butterfly Suplex for a two count. Ciampa would be able to block that finishing Military Press Slam, hitting a reverse DDT.
This one spilled outside, where some concrete was exposed. Ciampa wisely nailed a DDT onto that hard surface and got Breakker into the ring. Fairytale Ending on a Bloody Breaker, who kicked out on instinct. Three running knee strikes, and one more Fairytale Ending, and Ciampa wins.
This one kept things simple, which worked to it’s benefits. It was well paced, hard hitting, and focused on telling the story of brains vs. brawn. Breakker proved he’s not quite ready for deep waters yet, but kept surprising fans until the end. Tomasso Ciampa Match Rating: 3.75/5 (*** 3/4)
