This past episode of AEW Dynamite was another great one, setting fan hype for Full Gear to an all time high. We got a few new matches added, some extra fire for matches like CM Punk vs. Eddie Kingston and Hangman Page vs. Kenny Omega. However, they also built more towards the future – with a lot of hints of what is next to come within AEW, hinting at future appearances, and perhaps an incoming signing.
The Rainmaker Making His Way To AEW While Stateside?
The biggest news coming out of Dynamite was the onslaught of mentions towards Kazuchika Okada during the opening match. He is the leader of their CHAOS faction, and alongside Tomohiro Ishii – is in the United States at the moment. Okada allowed Best Friends to join the faction, bringing Trent? & Chuck Taylor back in alongside Kris Statlander, Orange Cassidy & Wheeler YUTA, which was a good reason to bring him up on commentary.
From Jim Ross hyping him up as one of the Top 5 pro wrestlers in the world today, to his accomplishments being praised – it was a good start to building hype for the potential of Okada showing up. The Forbidden Door has been hanging by it’s hinges for a while now, with names like Rocky Romero, KENTA, Minoru Suzuki, Satoshi Kojima, and Yuji Nagata all having wrestled in an AEW ring. Even Hiroshi Tanahashi has been teased to show up in the future, with him showing up in a pre-taped promo.
Okada would be the biggest of all, especially when you consider the past he has with Kenny Omega – their matches still being regarded as some of the best ever. Add in him just being great friends with The Young Bucks, and don’t be shocked if you hear a coin drop during the closing moments of Full Gear.
Could Kyle O’Reilly Be Elite Before We Know It?
Another potential story lead came after the events of Jungle Boy vs. Anthony Bowens. Aside from Bowens getting angry at a fan at ringside, with reports of a homophobic slur being thrown at Bowens circulating, there was one interesting bit about this otherwise unremarkable match. Bobby Fish ran in after the match, beating down Jungle Boy – and it being revealed he is now working with The Elite.
This makes sense, The Young Bucks know him well after countless tag team matches, and Adam Cole was a faction mate in NXT. For the moment, Fish is rolling with The Elite, and in a few months – we could have a full OG Undisputed Era reunion on our hands. The contract of Kyle O’Reilly is set to come to an end soon, and given his lack of direction in NXT 2.0, he could be one of the next to leave WWE for AEW.
Many have speculated that Adam Cole will soon reshape The Elite in his own image, kicking out Kenny Omega and sticking with The Young Bucks. Having Adam Cole, The Young Bucks, reDRagon, and potentially Kevin Steen all in the same faction? That could be game changing. Could you see Okada, or O’Reilly showing up in AEW?
