This Saturday brings possibly the biggest match in All Elite Wrestling history. It feels like you could say that with every PPV they run, but truly this time it is true. We are set to potentially see the payoff to a story started all the way back at Double Or Nothing 2019. Hangman Page has already been a character who has suffered through the ups and downs of a professional wrestler.
He’s lost his friends due to personal demons and self doubt, lost his big moments like the match to become the first ever AEW World Champion, and lost himself along the way. However, he’s gained friends who unconditionally support him, a rabid fanbase, and earned his way back to the top. This Saturday, there is a very real chance he leaves Full Gear 2021 as the AEW World Champion – and he knows that things have changed since last time.
A Different Hangman Page Than Who Fans Saw Come To The Ring At All Out 2019
While speaking on with Connor Casey of Comic Book, about his upcoming match with Kenny Omega, Page would discuss a variety of topics. He noted that things feel right for a big title win, much different then before, and would detail how things feel much different then his first shot at the AEW World Championship back at All Out 2019. Page knows he’s grown as a performer, saying the following.
“I know that when I wrestled Jericho, I was the young guy who joined the Bullet Club who had the break of his career in being able to do that, being able to travel to Japan, who was in all those multi-man matches and who probably got beat in all those multi-man matches with Bullet Club. And the next thing he’s challenging for this new championship for a brand new company, headlining a pay-per-view. It didn’t add up for people and I think truthfully it didn’t add up for me deep inside. I didn’t understand how I got in the position. I mean I know that I won a battle royal to get there, but honestly, that doesn’t feel as meaningful if I had worked my way up from something more. So, yeah I don’t know if I’ve felt a hundred percent the way that I do now back then.”
The Best Beer Is A Free One
However on a lighter note, Page is well prepared for the win. He’s well prepared for the celebrations with his fanbase that could come of this. Page’s character of an Anxious Millennial Cowboy has a dash of a liking to beer. Back before COVID-19 was an issue, he would take sips of beers offered to him by fans, and should he be offered a beer after the match – he knows the best price is free.
“I’ll be honest, I’m not picky. Usually, it’s whatever someone hands me because that is my favorite price. So beyond that, I don’t know and nobody’s paid me the money to say otherwise, so I’ll leave it open-ended,”
