It’s been quite some time since something of note happened on 205 Live. Long past just being the home of the Cruiserweights of WWE – it now feels like something more akin to AEW Dark or WWE Main Event now. You get a few showcase matches from all across the NXT roster, and last night we got a debut of a promising talent from the WWE Performance Center. Tiffany Stratton made her in-ring debut, a former fitness model – and what was seen was very impressive.
Tiffany Stratton Shows Promise In Her In-Ring Debut
Taking the nickname “The Buff Barbie Doll” Stratton went toe to toe with another newish name to the NXT 2.0 system in Amari Miller. It was not a long or complex match, only going a few minutes – but what was shown was not what you’d expect from someone’s first televised match. Stratton showed okay wrestling skills, a lot of stage presence, and some great athletic abilities.
If she can get to the level where she can cut a decent promo, WWE might well hot shot her right to NXT 2.0 and beyond, as wrestling skills aren’t the most important thing in WWE at this point. They have stayed away from cutting too many of their female talents, but names like B-Fab, Tegan Nox, Taya Valkyrie and more were seen among recent releases – leaving a handful of spots on TV open.
The Future Of The Women’s Division Could Resemble The Past
These are the types of talents we can likely expect for the future of the WWE Women’s division. They have tried using female indy names, but they haven’t clicked all the time. Names like Ember Moon have all the talent in the world, but aside from her initial time in NXT, always felt a bit out of place working the WWE style.
If WWE can recruit young athletic ladies like Startton, and teach them to wrestle – that is something WWE knows how to use. That is the formula they used for years before the women’s evolution, and what they might use for years to come. Right now, their recruitment for female talent is reported as being looking for those 25 years or younger.
