In the last two batches of WWE releases, the entirety of the promising Hit Row faction was cut. The group which had its roots in NXT blended the worlds of rap music and professional wrestling. There is a fair bit of overlap there, as seen with songs like Ric Flair Drip. Add in that all four members were legit in their raping, and you had group that was talented in multiple ways .
It also made one that needed some room to do their own thing. First their female member, B-Fab was cut – and then the rest of the group soon after, and the release of B-Fab could be what caused it all to fall apart.
Hit Row Recorded A Fresh Theme Song On Their Own
While showing up on BustedOpen radio, AJ “Top Dolla” Francis would explain how everything got tough after B-Fab was released. It all came down to their theme song, and how WWE might have been mad that they recorded a new one and didn’t accept the remix WWE provided.
“They got mad when Briana got released that I called up to the office. I was like, ‘I don’t understand why you’d release Briana when we are a foursome group.’ You take Briana out of the group and yeah, we’re still cool, and yeah, we can still do all the same things, but we are just every three-man wrestling group. They were upset because when they took Briana out of the group, they wanted to re-do the song. So they did like a remix of the song, but the song doesn’t sound the same without her part of it. So what we did was, we went in the studio and made a new song. I guess they were upset that we made a new song, but we are a rap group. How are we a rap group if we can’t make a song? Then we are just wrestlers.”
WWE Over Managing Their Talent Will Get Them Nowhere
This is the type of over managing their product that makes WWE feel very manufactured. Hit Row had a chance to be something special on their product – but only if WWE gave them room to grow. In NXT they had that level of freedom, but it was never going to be found on the main roster. Lots of money was potentially left on the table with this group. An issue is especially clear when they’re going out of their way to make their act special – and being shut down for it.
Outside of the ring, Top Dolla remains active in not only building his career, but also helping those in need. His 5th Annual Canned Food Drive was able to collect 15 full shopping carts worth of food, all for the homeless children at Sarah’s House in Fort Meade, MD this past weekend. Regardless of his polarizing online persona, you can’t deny that is damn fine work from Top Dolla, and something more should focus on.
