Carmelo Hayes has a claim to being the A-Champion of NXT, provided he’s able to survive tonight’s challenge. Not only does he need to face former three time NXT North American champion Johnny Gargano, but also former NXT UK Champion Pete Dunne. Not only is this the first time he’s defended the championship, but it’s against two of the best the brand has ever had. Will tonight be the time when ‘Melo finally misses?
Johnny Wrestling Is Here To Shine
Hayes would start the match by smartly sending Dunne out of the ring, before being taken down with a hurricanrana and dropkick from Johnny Wrestling. Gargano would be taken out with a kick to the head, and Hayes would take a shoulder tackle from Dunne, who dodged a kick from Gargano and looked for a crossface before nearly ending up in Gargano escape.
Hayes would hit from behind to take both men down, before Dunne stacked both men into a double single leg crab. Trick Williams saved Hayes, and Gargano would be able to kick his way free. He’d grab the arm and hit an armbreaker, before looking for the Gargano escape, before Hayes springboarded to hit a lariat.
Taking control, he’d try to suplex Gargano, and get outdone, with Hayes taking a bulldog as Dunne took a lariat. Gargano then kicked off Dunne for a DDT on Hayes, before nailing dives on both. Johnny f’n Wrestling would then hit a running hurricanrana on Dunne, and take a moment in the ring to gain his breath back.
Carmelo Hayes Claims The Much Needed Win
He’d collect Hayes from the floor, and exchange some words with Trick, allowing Hayes to get control in the ring with a rope hung leg drop on Gargano before Dunne would grab a deathlock on Gargano and suplex Hayes. Dunne would try to hit a German Suplex on Gargan, and only got it when Hayes got a diving sunset flip.
All three men were fighting to their feet, with Hayes getting up first and sandwiched with forearm blows. Dunne would go for a triangle choke on Hayes but Gargano broke it up. Hayes took a slingshot spear, and Dunne a tornado DDT for a two count. Dunne would take a huge codebreaker from Hayes before being slammed onto Gargano and hit with a cutter – and still being able to kick out at two.
Right back to it, Dunne would stomp some hands before being spiked with a poisonrana, with Hayes rushing into a massive lariat from Gargano. Lawn dart rocked Hayes, Williams took a DDT, and Dunne threw Hayes out of the ring before hitting Bitter End. Tony D’Angleo would take out Dunne, and Hayes landed a diving legdrop for the win. What issue D’Angleo has with Dunne? Who knows. Maybe Hayes just paid him off.
An action packed triple threat match, with Hayes truly hanging with both Dunne & Gargano. Every man got their signature blows in, and plenty of time to shine – with Hayes coming out on top, albeit through dubious means. Match Rating: /5 ()
The action would not stop however, as Dunne and D’Angleo started a brawl. LA Knight & Grayson Waller brought their brawl into the mix, and the crowd already knew. WarGames chants were coming, but the NXT originals were down a name. Hayes would look to shatter the hand of Gargano, and the music of Ciampa hit. Everyone looked like they saw a ghost, as Ciampa would clean the house with a steel chair.
Ciampa turned the odds, and this is a united force. Bron Breakker came out and yelled WARGAMES, and we’d fade to black with a massive brawl. Who will win at WarGames, NXT originals or The New School? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
