No matter how much Jorge Masvidal wants a piece of Jake Paul, he wants a piece of Paul’s pay-per-view package even more.
Jake Paul recently called Jorge Masvidal out, offering him a guaranteed $5 million to fight in the boxing ring. “Gamebred” was quick to reply via Twitter, calling the dollar figure “chump change” and offering an alternative starting with $20 Million guaranteed.
Masvidal Won’t Box Paul for $5 Million “Chump Change”
“The UFC isn’t gonna let me go for chump change. Make that 20 ($20 million) guaranteed plus Ppv and I’m sure the UFC will be ok with it as long as I break them off their fee and then I’ll gladly break your face.”
In a follow-up Tweet, Jorge Masvidal even offered Jake Paul the chance to enter the Octagon with a modified ruleset.
“If the UFC still says no because the money is still too low then come over to the UFC, sign a 1 fight deal and we can stipulate I can only box in the cage. If i do anything other than that I will forfeit my purse to you. Come on over and get paid and laid out.”
Jake Paul has made a boxing career of fighting non-boxers, and Jorge Masvidal, despite his impressive striking ability, is yet another example of this. He’s also prone to seeking out UFC fighters on losing streaks, including Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren and, now, Jorge Masvidal.
Masvidal’s last two fights, both against welterweight champ Kamaru Usman, ended in defeat for the Miami-based fighter, and he may well be looking for a financial windfall against a less challenging opponent.
Jake Paul, in a video posted to his YouTube channel, explained exactly why he won’t be moving to the UFC. Surprisingly, the likelihood of him getting kneed in the head or choked out did not enter the conversation.
“Yeah, let me come work for the UFC. I make more than every UFC fighter f*cking combined, including Conor. Y’all work for Dana, y’all work for WME/Endeavor, that’s who you work for. I make more than all you silly motherf*ckers.
Why would I go into the UFC and sign a contract to give away my f*cking rights and sh*t.”
Jake Paul’s net worth is estimated between $17 million and $30 million, while Conor McGregor’s far eclipses that at around $200 million. Most UFC fighters make far less per fight, however, and could be tempted into an easy payday with Jake Paul.
