The moment when CM Punk showed up in AEW is when people felt the tide started to change in professional wrestling. After almost a decade away from the ring, Punk was back and with all the passion in the world. Since then, he’s been taking the fight to the rising stars of the company – the likes of Darby Allin, Daniel Garcia, Powerhouse Hobbs, and is now feuding with MJF. CM Punk is here to help build up the future of AEW – as he feels they’re the future of professional wrestling as a whole.
CM Punk Sees A Bright Future In The Roster Of AEW
While speaking with ESPN SportsNation, CM Punk would be asked why he’s choosing to mainly get into the ring with the rising stars of AEW – and he’d respond with the following.
“I think the future of AEW is in such good hands. Most of the younger guys that we have that we’re gonna wind up spotlighting in the next five years or so, are in their early 20’s. Britt Baker, Hook…I mean everybody seems to love Hook, guy’s had one match…I just think we take our time with our talents. AEW as a whole is still a baby. Two years old, right? Two years old, and we’re gonna be moving to TBS in the new year. That’s a big step. And, just taking time and fostering the new talents instead of just kind of throwing ‘em out there and having a sink or swim attitude, I think helps. Daniel Garcia is a guy I think that is phenomenal. Powerhouse Hobbs, Ricky Starks…I’ll forget so many people if I name them. I just think the future is very very bright.”
Which Names Could Face CM Punk In 2022?
While his next match is obvious, as he’s on route to a match with MJF – CM Punk has a lot of potential matches in 2022. He’s rarely been working with someone more than once, which makes it easy to figure out which stars have chances to work with Punk soon. Names that Punk hasn’t faced yet include Sammy Guevara, Hangman Page, Ricky Starks, Jungle Boy, Wheeler Yuta, Orange Cassidy, Wardlow and more.
We’re also likely to see Punk work with his old rival Bryan Danielson at some point, which is likely to be saved for a PPV event. Kenny Omega is another potential PPV match, as well as a facing Chris Jericho. These are some big time matches – even if two out of three have happened in the past.
