Rumours were running wild on social media, as a trend started to take off which suggested that the pandemic would only end once everybody had contracted the Omicron variant.
QAnon Inspired Supporters Claim That The Pandemic Will End Once Everyone Gets The Omicron Variant
The Covid-19 pandemic has continued to exasperate society, given that it has almost been 2 years before the world had last seen a sense of normality.
And in an attempt to work out the best way of overcoming the pandemic, certain users on social media suggested that it was possible to end it if everybody had contracted the virus.
Ron Watkins, who is often associated with being connected to QAnon, apparently had this to say: “Will the pandemic end if everyone gets antibodies from omicron?
“Now you know why they rushed to shut down the spread of omicron even though the symptoms are very mild.” This raised a lot of discussion on social media.
And as expected, people on both sides of the fence had something to say about it. A certain subset of people felt that these comments did not help the conversation, as it could be interpreted as them welcoming the fact that people were getting sick.
Meanwhile, others felt that this was necessary as it would have the impact of achieving herd immunity. And once that was done, the prospect of ending the pandemic would be a whole lot easier.
One observer on Twitter wrote: “Omicron . . . likely to accelerate the end of the pandemic. Almost everyone will get it. Herd immunity will be achieved.
“The vaxxers rushing to force the jab so they can take credit for what nature accomplished.” But when it comes to examining the statistics, it tells a whole different story.
Reports indicate that Covid hospitalisations in the United States have increased by 40%. As such, more people testing positive for the virus has not led to the so-called herd immunity that everybody was hoping for despite the vaccination programme.
There is simply no way of knowing when or how the pandemic will end. If these answers were readily available to us, then life as we once knew it prior to the pandemic, would have returned to normal by now.
