It’s Wednesday everybody, the most wonderful time of the week… and that means a double dose of wrestling goodness! Jordan Huie of the Overtimer, capping off the previews for tonight’s edition of WWE NXT! And for the main event of the evening – or maybe the first match of the night, depending on the logic they use for that this week – we’ve got a truly titanic match here. Frankly, it’s some ridiculous crazy hotshotting if ever I’ve seen it if we’re being totally honest, but can’t complain about getting a great match for free~
Keith Lee vs. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Finn Balor
Sooo yeah! This is massive! Two former NXT Champions – storied ones at that – and the guy everyone’s tipped to be the next big megastar of 2020. And I mean, that really doesn’t even feel like a bold declaration. If anything he should’ve been that guy this year already. Keith Lee has been a very, very obvious star in the making from day 1, but in any event…
Finn Balor on the other hand just recently returned to NXT, turned heel in dramatic fashion and teased the hell out of a union with Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era, only to hit him with the same Pele Kick that dropped Johnny Gargano on that fateful night. There’s a lot of mystique and mystery surrounding him right about now, one of NXT’s most fascinating characters.
And as far as Tommaso Ciampa goes, I mean… daddy’s home. What more can you say? Because of him, a lot of people have accepted ‘Goldie’ as the official name of the NXT Championship. That’s really putting your stamp on the brand. Ciampa’s an icon of NXT like few others can lay claim to.
It’s a big, big match, especially considering the winner becomes No. 1 Contender to the NXT Championship! But that is the key, here. Everybody in this match has some kind of build to them that points them towards Adam Cole. One could maybe assume that he’ll be defending against all three of them from January to April – that magical WrestleMania Season.
That means this could theoretically go a lot of different ways, just depending on who they want the title on next and how much longer they’re planning to go until it happens.
My gut tells me that Adam Cole is keeping that NXT Championship until April. And I thiiiink Keith Lee is the guy who will take it from him. With that in mind, the match most appropriate to go for within the next month or so, is probably Tommaso Ciampa. Finn Balor’s shot can be saved for the February TakeOver. I think that’s pretty clean.
