When it comes to under used talents in AEW – Brian Cage is at the top of the list. He came into AEW in 2020, and was thrust into a battle with Jon Moxley over the AEW World Heavyweight Championship. As the ace of Team Taz, Cage seemed posed to be one of their biggest stars – but had no chance to really realize that, as he fell into the background after being booted from the faction.
Brian Cage AEW Contract Is Coming To An End
After showing respect to Sting & Darby Allin, Team Taz booted Brian Cage from their ranks. Following this, Ricky Starks defeated Cage to claim the FTW Championship – and following that, Cage didn’t find himself in an AEW ring more often. His final AEW match came against Ricky Starks in November 2021 – losing in a Philadelphia Street Fight.
Brian Cage would get a lot of fan attention after this, with a constant wonder of when he will show back up in AEW. Cage has remained very busy on the indies, facing the likes of JONAH and Flip Gordon recently. With his time in AEW coming to an end, Cage will be free to sign elsewhere – with places like NJPW or Impact Wrestling possible landing places for Cage. Ring of Honor is also a big option – as they’ve moved away from contracts ahead of their April 1st return.
Joey Janela & Marko Stunt Are Also Soon To Be Done With AEW
Brian Cage is now the only name who will soon have his AEW contract come to an end. Lio Rush has already confirmed that he will not be signing a new deal with AEW. Joey Janela is someone who has made it clear that his future in AEW is up in the air – focusing on a need for stepping his game up. Marko Stunt is a hard sell in AEW now, as the role of manager in Jurassic Express has been taken by Christian Cage – and his size never endeared himself to TV fans.
