Chris Jericho is one of the best to ever wrestle and has earned the title of GOAT (Greatest of all Time) in the eyes of many, so when he says something it tends to strike a nerve.
Whether that nerve is good or bad is a whole other thing.
There has been plenty coming out from former WWE stars about how they were stifled, buried, treated, and so on with the company.
It’s easy to blast the WWE for doing things that fit their business model, especially when other companies have a better reputation for how they treat their stars.
It’s something that’s not a one size fits all as some don’t mind the WWE model while others detest it, and the same with the other companies.
In the end, it comes down to someone’s personal experience, and Chris Jericho talked about that recently on the “Wrestling with Freddie” Podcast.
Better treatment
Their discussion came around to the difference between AEW and WWE, and Jericho’s opinion seems like a bomb, but we think it’s more of a statement based on his experiences, but you be the judge.
Special thanks to @the_wrestling_news2 for the transcript.
Jericho said, “AEW’s treatment is a million times better than WWE’s ever was because the Khan family are owners of sports teams, so they come at it from a sports stand point. I never had hotels or cars provided ever. In the 30 years of working in the United States, if I did a one off or something, but WWE really never took care of that. On the other hand, AEW does.”
It seems like something minor, but when it comes down to it travel and expenses eat up a lot of money and time to set up.
Unseen tasks
We’ve all heard the stories of talent working 300 days a year, and they’d have to schedule their own flights and travel, car rentals, and hotel rooms.
The organizational skills to do that is mind blowing, and to top it off many have stated they had to pay for it all.
As independent contractors, roughly a quarter of their income goes to taxes and they pay that themselves. Add into the costs of travel, and while they are business expenses, keeping track of it all is an enormous responsibility.
As we mentioned above, some like the freedom and control managing that themselves, while others like to not have to worry about it.
Sports teams tend to take care of those expenses for their coaches and players, so it makes sense the Kahns would use that model for AEW as well.
