Another episode of AEW Dark will be premiering tonight and it’s a unique show as always. A plethora of tag action is on tap, with three very different duos bouts set. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer and let’s get going with this here preview.
Dustin Rhodes will be a guest commentator this week.
They seem to be enjoying the idea of a different special guest at the booth each week on AEW Dark. It’s been fun thus far, and I’m sure someone like Dustin will have plenty of insights. He’s still selling the injured hand from his altercation with Jake Hager and thus still isn’t ready to return to the ring, but this keeps him active on-screen.
The Young Bucks vs. The Stronghearts (T-Hawk & El Lindamen)
They made sure to point out in teasers that this was filmed prior to last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, and thus it happened before Matt was taken out in the assault at the hands of Santana & Ortiz.
The Stronghearts are the most obscure facet of AEW’s tag division, appearing infrequently and thus far yet to make their AEW Dynamite debut. Technically I don’t believe they’re actually signed to AEW but make regular appearances through the association with CIMA’s OWE. The two of them are presented as his prize students, and while rough around the edges they’ve definitely shown a lot of flashes. This should be a fine experience for the two of them. An easy Bucks win, of course, but productive in terms of development.
Riho & Britt Baker vs. Big Swole & Kris Statlander
The two marquee faces of the women’s division team up against some interesting up and comers. They seem to suddenly really like booking Swole as much as they can, and she’s definitely a prospect. Statlander I can’t say I’ve seen before personally, but she’s coming in with a lot of acclaim for only having two years under her belt. EVPs seem excited to have managed to bring her in. She should have a good chance to show her stuff here. Again, this looks like a pretty foregone conclusion but one to pay attention to nonetheless.
From Undesirable To Undeniable With Justin Roberts
I’m somewhat astounded that Cody’s doing this after the past week and a half he’s had, but he’ll be sitting down with AEW’s ring announcer this time out. This will be a bit interesting as he actually has quite the story to tell, having made a few waves speaking on his time in WWE when his book released. I’m not sure how deep they’d want to get into that here, these tend to be fairly quick condensed versions of their stories, but curious regardless.
Best Friends vs. Private Party
This will rule! The only match of the night that’d actually be tricky to call, these are two of AEW’s many premier teams. Don’t really have much else to say other than I’m looking forward to it quite a bit, and am curious if we’ll see Orange Cassidy interact with Private Party’s bouncer.
You can expect a recap of this show later tonight!
