Wednesday means wrestling! Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here gearing up for another episode of AEW Dynamite coming up soon! Hour and a half away from air time as I type this and I better get going on this preview because they’ve been kind enough to give me a whole lot of advertised segments to talk about, matches and promos alike! Eight, by my count! To go from Raw and SmackDown barely giving me two every week to knowing eight things that will definitely be on Dynamite tonight, it’s pretty crazy honestly.
For my first preview here, we’re looking at a very interesting women’s match…
Hikaru Shida vs. Kris Statlander
One of the many joshi imports that we’ve gotten to see as an AEW regular, Hikaru Shida is among the most talented women on the roster for certain, and many speculate that she’ll be getting a rematch from All Out and challenging Riho for the AEW Women’s Championship sooner rather than later.
Kris Statlander is a very recent signee who, per reports, WWE actually expected to be in the Performance Center by January, only for her to be signed from under their noses after they evidently forgot to send a contract. This speaks to how saught after she is. She’s emblematic of many of the non-Joshi talent in this division, in that she has a spark of potential and is gifted athletically, but is rather raw, only having been in the business for two years. But my oh my, does she ever have some flashes of greatness. She’s of much larger, more powerful build than most others around, in addition to having some crazy high flying spots in her arsenal.
Against someone like Hikaru who can guide her through, I’d expect to see a really, really good match here. And a fine win for Shida en route to challenging Riho.
