Ladies and gentlemen, it is Wednesday night, always the best night of the week if you ask me, purely because it means another edition of the modern day wrestling wars! AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT are once again set to grace us with their presence, and I could not be more excited! After all, tonight… I’m going to be there at AEW Dynamite live! Yes, they’ll be emanating from Southaven, Mississippi, which is like a half hour drive from my house, I would’ve been crazy to pass that up! It’s a special show too, billed as the AEW Anniversary, as it’s a year out from the inaugural Double Or Nothing rally, which was technically the first AEW-sponsored event of any kind!
My watching from the stands means that I’m unable to do the usual recap but I’ll still be giving you the previews as usual, and the results later tonight!
Christopher Daniels vs. Sammy Guevara
When Christopher Daniels finally returned from the injury sustained at the hands of Pentagon months ago, it was with revenge in mind. But a pivotal point in the match saw him make a mistake that has since haunted him, a botched springing moonsault to the ramp. Whether this was legit or intended, it was worked into the story of the match pretty easily, given the trauma Daniels had sustained and it was quickly painted as the reason for his defeat.
In the weeks since, Daniels has yet to forget about this moonsault gone awry, largely played up on BTE, as he’s begun to question he still ‘has it’. Given his age (he turns 50 in two months) and the storyline injury, his character is in a fragile state and to have such a botch in this all-important match was a blow to his ego. Now he’s questioning himself, looking to prove that he’s still the man.
Sammy Guevara, always cocky, mocked Daniels for this and a match between the two was quickly setup. This is only the beginning of this angle. And it only makes sense for youth to win out for a while, to sink Daniels further into doubt before he can eventually redeem himself. Guevara to win, by clean means or otherwise.
