Just got back in and after a short rest, I’m ready to talk about the show I just watched live! Said show included a very unique tag match, pitting The Brotherhood – Cody & Dustin Rhodes – against the Lucha Bros, Rey Fenix & Pentagon Jr.! AEW Dynamite came to Southaven, MS – though largely referred to as Memphis – for their Anniversary show! A year out from the official, formal announcement of All Elite Wrestling, they put on a special show to be sure. Just half an hour away from me no less, I couldn’t help but go. Now that the show’s over though, it’s back to work for me. I’m Jordan Huie of the Overtimer here to give you all the results from tonight’s event!
The Brotherhood (Cody & Dustin Rhodes) defeated the Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix)
This special little dream match pits two of AEW’s most famed brother tandems against one another. The Brotherhood that is Cody & Dustin Rhodes have only teamed together a handful of times since their split back in WWE. So it’s always a valued thing when it does happen. And getting to see the Lucha Bros live is always a fantastic experience for me.
It turned out that this bout was another one that I missed on in my predictions. I figured the more regular team would take the victory, but they surprised me here. The end of this match saw Dustin hit the Curtain Call on Rey Fenix to get the pin. This is perhaps the most significant pinfall victory he’s gained since joining AEW.
It’s clear that the intent is to protect the Rhodes boys for the foreseeable future. Atleast until they face off with their rivals, MJF and Jake Hager, respectively. Pentagon does have another match with Christopher Daniels in the future, but Fenix has little currently planned, aside from tentative teases of one day challenging Kenny Omega for the AAA Mega Championship again.
