It’s that wonderful time of the week again… the Wednesday Night Wars rage on! And it’s a pretty big night for AEW! Their Georgia debut takes place in the historic Georgia Dome itself! We’ve got a title match here tonight, as Kenny Omega and Hangman Page defend against Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr., the Lucha Bros! I’m Jordan Huie, you are here with us at the Overtimer were you’ll find the full coverage of tonight’s show! That means recaps and results for every single solitary segment, published moments after they arrive! Plus, previews of everything you can expect this evening! Let’s get to it!
AEW World Tag Team Championship: Hangman Page & Kenny Omega (c) vs. The Lucha Bros (Rey Fenix & Pentagon Jr.)
Noticeably absent from the tag team battle royal are the Lucha Bros, Fenix and Penta. But that’s because they’re busy going after the titles instead! Both halves of the tag title match at AEW Revolution will be decided here tonight. The Lucha Bros are getting this chance by virtue of getting the pin over the champs in an eight-man tag match a couple of weeks back, albeit by controversial means.
The Butcher & The Blade chose Fenix and Pentagon as their partners for an atomicos bout against Kenny Omega, Hangman Page and the Young Bucks. The Elite were doing pretty well but Page’s discontent with his partners, particularly Matt & Nick Jackson, was showing it’s ugly head in a big way on that night. He didn’t particularly seem to enjoy being on the same side as them and, when Kenny Omega was taken off the apron at a time where he desperately needed to tag out, Page declined tagging in either of the brothers Jackson. This effectively sealed his own fate, as he was pinned shortly thereafter.
Now, the champs have to rectify that mistake. Kenny & Page face off with the Lucha Bros one more time. It was really the upset win (in my estimation anyway) over the masked duo last month that put Page and Omega in line for a tag title match in the first place. After successfully defending against former champs SCU last week, they now find themselves with the gold on the line for the second week in a row. I’ve been thinking Page/Omega vs. Young Bucks at Revolution ever since they won the titles so I’m saying the champs retain here.
