CMLL Super Viernes March 6, Mexican National Tag Tournament And Marquee Match Analysis
Felino, who cost Cavernario/Volador Jr the Torneo Nacional Increible de Parejas tournament last week and his partner Tiger defeated Drone/Esfinge. Afterward, Rey Bucanero/Shocker beat Audaz/Fugaz in disappointingly quick fashion to set up the final semi-final match.
Atlantis Jr/Flyer defeated Rey Cometa/Star Jr in the first match of the semi-finals, in what was likely the best match of the tournament. Felino/Tiger quickly defeated Rey Bucanero/Shocker in another disappointingly short match.
The finals saw Atlantis Jr/Flyer defeat Felino/Tiger to move on to face Templario/Hijo del Villano III for the Mexican National Tag Team Championship on the March 13 edition of Super Viernes.
The marquee match of the night saw Caristico, Valiente, and Volador Jr defeat Cavernario, Euforia, and CMLL World Heavyweight Champion Ultimo Guerrero in two straight falls. While the match was fine, it was didn’t feel nearly as important as the tournament and felt slightly rushed.
Overall the Super Viernes event was solid. While the show wasn’t great, it helped elevate Atlantis and Flyer. Their match against Templario/Hijo del Villano III should have a good measure of buzz and could be a good match if the four are given the necessary time. Unfortunately, the hype may not be what it should due to how CMLL treats their championships; however, that shouldn’t take away from what has been a good build to the title match.
