We are just a few short weeks away from the big crossover PPV event from both NJPW & AEW. The card for Forbidden Door is really starting to take shape, with matches like Jon Moxley vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi announced, and Jay White vs. Hangman Page teased. However, not everyone from the AEW roster will be allowed to appear on the show – namely, Andrade El Idolo.
Andrade El Idolo Is Unable To Work With NJPW Talent, Due To CMLL & AAA Having Issues
Andrade himself would bring this issue up on Twitter, stating the following.
“I can’t work with NJPW, thanks CMLL and AAA”
This shuts down any hope of seeing Andrade alongside Los Ingobernables De Japon. The faction led by Tetsuya Naito is the Japanese branch of the original Los Ingobernables faction, which Andrade started during his time in CMLL as La Sombra. Other names who will be unable to show up on Forbidden Door include The Lucha Bros, Rey Fenix & Penta Oscuro.
What Led To This
As for why he will be unable to work this show, it’s not exactly a simple situation. CMLL is the longest running Lucha Libre promotion in Mexico, with AAA being a company started in the 90’s by some disgruntled ex-CMLL stars. That’s not going to lead to a good history between the rival promotions.
Meanwhile, CMLL & NJPW have been working partners for a long time – with NJPW often sending their Young Lions on excursion for them to learn the Lucha Libre style. This resulted in names like Hiromu Takahashi, Tetsuya Naito, and most recently Master Wato becoming more complete performers. CMLL partnering with NJPW also gave Andrade a reign as IWGP Intercontinental Champion, under the mask of La Sombra.
However, following his run in WWE as Andrade ‘Cien’ Almas, he would not return to CMLL. Instead, Andrade would show up in AAA to challenge Kenny Omega for the AAA Mega Championship. Andrade would even try and launch a whole new promotion, which while never running any shows – killed the partnership between CMLL & Ring of Honor due to ROH talent being booked.
Andrade is now essentially blacklisted from CMLL, and due to NJPW not wanting to harm their relationship with CMLL – he might be blacklisted from working with any NJPW talent. This is an issue AEW will have to face in working with both AAA & NJPW, and maybe they could end up being the ones to mend some bridges.
