AEW Dynamite begins with a vignette from Jake Roberts. Asks us if we’d stand in front of a train that’s going down the track? Jump off a plane without a parachute? Or would you stand in the ring and look at Lance Archer and think you have a prayer of winning? All of those things have the same conclusion. You’re done. Quit playing the game. He knows what happened to Marko. Nobody else wanted it and he thought it was a chance to prove he was a man. Suggests to Marko that sometimes it’s better to be thought a fool than speak up and take action and erase all doubt. Implies that Cody made sure that they were on the opposite sides of the bracket so that perhaps one of them would slip on a banana peel and not make it to facing each other. Asks Cody if he’s a man or a mouse? “Squeak up and tell me!” That leads to Lance Archer coming out for another match, our first tonight.
Lance Archer vs. Alan Engles
Engles didn’t get a graphic so I’m just assuming on the spelling of that name. Immediate big boot flips the dude over. Pulls him up, short-arm clothesline! Gets him into the corner, brutal open hand chop! Pulls him to his feet, clubbering blow to the back! Whip to the ropes, Alan ducks a kick, hits some leg kicks and chops to the chest, enziguri still doesn’t drop him. Hits the ropes, Archer grabs him by the throat and tosses him over his head, sends him flying across the ring! Crazy! Big shoulder block! And there’s the Blackout, the poor guy was shaking his head begging him not to on the way down. That is, to say the least, that.
Winner: Lance Archer
Archer needs to be against tiny dudes all the time. Just whenever they get the chance, they should go ahead and make that happen. It’s a lovely thing to be witness to. It’s actually sorta rare that you find someone who can make quick squash matches that fun but Lance Archer is certainly one of them. Much as I love Jake Roberts being his manager, you really don’t need anything to be said for him to get over huge. Then again it’d be impossible not to cheer him without a heater like that.
