AEW Dynamite is on tap once more tonight. We’ve got plenty to discuss as usual, including two title matches and an interview with the biggest free agent tag team signing in many, many years. With no further ado let’s get to the AEW Dynamite Preview.

TNT Championship: Cody (c) vs. Jungleboy

Cody is the inaugural TNT Champion and the decision was made for him really that his first title defense would come very quickly, as even when going into Double or Nothing we knew they’d be holding a battle royal to name the immediate challenger. Jungleboy was the winner that night, but it sounds like this is just going to be the beginning. Cody has promised something similar to what John Cena once did with the US title, an open challenge defending the gold against any hungry up-and-comer who wanted a shot.

That series was renowned for giving the WWE version of that title a prestige that it never had before or since, and made for a plethora of great matches, a lovely highlight to many a cold midcard act. Cody was actually one of those people himself, challenging Cena under his Stardust guise. He’s promised to defend the TNT title every week and pretty much made it clear his hope is to steal the show each time. He’s even stated this open challenge goes out to people not in AEW, a very tantalizing prospect indeed…

But to even get to all that, he first must go through Jungleboy, someone perfectly suited for the scenario himself. Jungle’s a great young star of the future, probably not the far off future at that. But I don’t think anyone in the world expects Cody to drop the title so swiftly and it’d honestly put a big damper on this whole idea to end his run before the open challenges can even start. Cody will retain – but Jungle will look like a million bucks by the end of it, or atleast that’s the hope.

    Sit-Down Interview With FTR

Tony Schiavone will be speaking to Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, aka FTR the team formerly known as The Revival. Last week they made their shock debuts in AEW but did so in a mystifying way, saving the Young Bucks from an attack only to turn their backs on a handshake. They left without a word that night, and there are tons of questions to be asked right now. I don’t know that FTR are going to go down as the biggest names AEW signed this year but I think it’s fair to say they might be the most important signing of the year, the Bucks/FTR feud that everyone’s been waiting for could – and SHOULD –  truly put tag team wrestling on the map again in this country and keep it there. They also never really got to show off their promo chops anywhere but Twitter videos before so I’m certainly interested in what they have to say.

AEW World Tag Team Championships: Kenny Omega & Hangman Page (c) vs. Kip Sabian & Jimmy Havoc

Kenny and Page already know that they’ll be facing the Best Friends in the future, seemingly a match set for Fyter Fest. But before then, they’ve got to get through a new team that’s shown a lot of promise, and a lot of viciousness in Kip Sabian and Jimmy Havoc. They like to call themselves the Superbad Death Squad but man that does not roll off the tongue in the slightest. But regardless, the SDS have quickly developed a solid chemistry, a nice blend of athleticism, technical skill and pure devious tactics. They should make for an interesting test for the champs who are having their first traditional match alongside each other since the classic bout against the Bucks at Revolution. This match certainly be anything like that one but it’ll be good to see them again all the same, no reason this can’t be a strong one. The champs retain of course.

I’m a hardcore wrestling fan, by which I mean I’m a hardcore fan of wrestling... but I also have nothing against hardcore wrestling! I’ve been watching since 2006, back when I was 12 years old. In that time I’ve fervently followed WWE, TNA, ROH, Lucha Underground and others. Today I’m most passionate about NXT, New Japan and especially AEW! You could call me a modern wrestling savant but I know my old school stuff as well... I’ll be your huckleberry all night long.
