Another episode of AEW Dynamite is on tap here this evening! The long awaited in-ring AEW debut of FTR is on tonight! Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler step into the ring with a similarly oldschool-minded duo when they go up against the Butcher and the Blade! As usual there’s plenty announced in advance for Dynamite and the show is but minutes away so let’s get to the previews!
FTR vs. The Butcher & The Blade
Here it is, the big debut match for Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, the team formerly known as the Revival. When they made their shock debut a couple of weeks ago, amazingly saving the Young Bucks from a beatdown of all things, it was at the expense of the Butcher and the Blade. In a sit-down interview last week, they explained this was done purely because when they face off with Matt and Nick Jackson, they want to make sure they take them on – and beat them – at their best. In that sense, it had very little to do with the guys they ran off but that didn’t stop them from being angry anyway. The Butcher and the Blade made their presence felt during Dax and Cash’s talk with Tony Schiavone and a pull-apart brawl was kicked up.
It was only logical then that this match was set. And it should be wholly unlike anything we’ve seen from AEW’s tag division so far. And I love the tag division, in fact I feel like it’s on-track to being the best and deepest tag scene in the history of American wrestling at this rate. But it does have a real tendency to lean towards the athletic, high-flying fresh-faced youngsters of the industry. The Butcher and the Blade have really been the major outliers in that. Blade is actually quite technically sound but at the core, they’re both just rugged bruisers. I’ve always thought of them as a throwback heel tag team.
It’s only apt then that they go up against two men who really made that their calling card. I mean it’s where the name “Revival” came from in the first place, they’ve been compared to Arn and Tully since Day 1 and that was basically by design. Together, these two teams should make for a gritty fight to be sure. But there’s not even a hair of doubt who wins this one. FTR over.
