NXT Super Tuesday II Results: Rhea Ripley vs. Mercedes Martinez [Steel Cage Match]

Sometimes a feud doesn’t need to be long, it just needs to be good. This is the case for Rhea Ripley & Mercedes Martinez, who despite having clashed a few times in recent weeks, have built a case for a rare Steel Cage match in NXT.

These are two of the strongest women in NXT, and while Martinez has Robert Stone backing her up? This is between her & Ripley, stuck in a cage that would feel tiny given their massive auras. Who would be left standing after this huge main event, dubbed the Battle of the Badasses by WWE?

Cage Matches Hit Differently In NXT

While on RAW & Smackdown, Steel Cages don’t feel particularly special, NXT presents them as downright dangerous events, how they should be. Martinez made it extra dangerous bringing a kendo stick some chairs, and almost a table into the ring. Ripley hasn’t got to let loose with weapons since WarGames, and was ready.

She’d rush Martinez before they got in the ring, and kick the cage door into her face, and bring the table into the cage. This was going to be a war, plain and simple. The door would be locked, and Martinez would run into Ripley and slam her into the steel. They’d slug it out, and Ripley would dodge a chair strike and come back with a lariat.

Martinez would be thrown into the cage, but Stone would help her know what’s going on and give her some help. Ripley would still remain in control with some hard forearms, and would try for the Riptide, with Martinez getting the Fisherman Buster off a counter.

An Incredibly Physical Match

Martinez grabbed a chair, but Ripley kicked it away and went to the top rope. She’d be punched in the face and powerslammed onto a steel chair, as we go to a commercial break. Coming back, they’d have beaten each other from corner to corner and Ripley hit some trapped knee strikes and the ripcord dropkick. Stone was getting anxious, as Martinez would be hung in the tree of woe and stomped.

Martinez would turn this into a German Suplex off to top rope, but was tied up preventing a pinfall. She’d finally get up and have a chair thrown at her face, blocking some of it. Ripley rushed in with a dropkick, Martinez getting her head stuck between two parts of the cage, and then being hit with a superplex, getting a two count.

Martinez would be pulled to her feet, but fought back with a spinebuster before collapsing to the mat herself. It should be noted neither woman has tried to escape the cage, they don’t want to win that way, they wanted to brutalize each other. Martinez went for a kick, but Ripley dodged and slammed her into the face. The Prism Lock would be applied, but Martinez grabbed the kendo stick and fought out with it.

Rhea Ripley & Mercedes Martinez Went To War

At this time, Ripley would attack Martinez with the kendo stick and Robert Stone tried to climb in and help his client. Ripley went after him and tried to suplex him off the cage, giving Martinez a chance to get back into this, taking Ripley off the cell with a huge neckbreaker. She’d take too long to get the pinfall, Ripley kicking out at two, Stone dead on top of the cage.

Martinez would set the table up, signaling the end of this match. Ripley would be pulled to the corner, punched in the face and the fisherman buster would be the plan. Martinez would be fought off with some headbutts, and Ripley would hit the second rope Riptide through the table, ending this match.
