Earlier this year at Wrestlemania, we saw AJ Styles get into a main event spot in a very unique match. He faced The Undertaker in his final match ever, in the Boneyard Match. This cinematic match was perhaps the best we saw in a year full of that style of match, and while AJ Styles lost, he proved to be very dependable.
Now, as we enter the Road to Wrestlemania once again, AJ Styles wants to face another legend of WWE, and has two major names in mind.
AJ Styles Wants Edge Or Triple H For Wrestlemania 37
While speaking with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT after TLC 2020, Styles would reveal that he pitched three opponents for Wrestlemania 37.
“Well, if it can’t be Drew McIntyre, give me Edge. If it can’t be Edge, give me Triple H. There’s a number of guys that are willing to step up, and it can be any one of those. I’m telling you, I want Edge. I got some payback to get from the Royal Rumble, I got some payback to get from that Spear. So it’s time to get some payback.”
However, Edge is likely to be facing Randy Orton once again to finish their feud if he is back in time for Wrestlemania, meaning that Styles might need to wait for Summerslam. That works just fine for Styles though, as he has been pestering Triple H for a match.
““I feel like I’ve put him in a situation like the Undertaker, like ‘Hey, hey, hey…’. Will he accept? I don’t know. These are guy that I’ve always thought, ‘Wow, they’re great’. Even speaking to them, you realise their mindset and the way they approach things are totally different to a lot of other performers. They just, there’s something about them. There’s a reason why he’s [Triple H] still doing what he’s doing. NXT is a brand because of Triple H, there’s no question about that. So I would love to see how that would work in a match with him. Will it ever happen? I don’t know, but I’m trying, guys!”
A Niche For Styles On Big Shows
With him having proven time and time again to be a very safe worker, AJ Styles has found a unique role in WWE. He’s someone with name value who can go out and have classic matches with just about anyone. If someone like Triple H wants another classic match? Accept the challenge from Styles. Edge wants to prove he can go with someone besides Orton? Call up Styles!
This is far from a bad place to be, as it means many big money matches for AJ Styles in the future. He was able to steal the show on a Wrestlemania card with Shane McMahon, so anything is possible.
