There’s three men who stake a claim as the first tag team champions in AEW, and those are Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels & Scorpio Sky. SCU were the team to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament, though it was Kazariain and Sky who were the main unit defending the belts. Daniels fell to the wayside due to an injury suffered from The Lucha Bros.
Since then, Sky has split off into a solo run. This leaves the longtime partners Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian, but even that isn’t perfect. They’ve been losing more and more matches lately, mostly due to Daniels. Kazarian knows they can be better, and has laid down a personal challenge for them.
Next Time SCU Loses A Match, They Disband Forever
The loss to The Acclaimed was the last straw for Kazarian, who would rip into his longtime friend on an episode of AEW Dark. A passionate promo would serve to motivate Daniels. Kazarian mentioned that until this year, he knew he could rely on Christopher Daniels, but every time they lost a tag team match? Daniels took the fall. They need to show that they can still be a top team, to become AEW World Tag Team Champions again. Kazarian said it best in this quote from the promo, which can be watched here.
“Right now we are at the bottom of the barrel of the tag team division. But we will fight, we will claw, we will work our way to the top and we will become AEW Tag Team Champions. Because from here on out the next time you and I lose as a tag team, you and I are done as a tag team. Forever.”
Daniels agreed to this, and the pact was sealed. They showed passion here, and will look to bring this back into the ring.
Setting Up A Major Match For 2021?
This storyline is the definition of simple, but it’s time tested. We are likely about to see SCU climb their way up the tag team rankings, and showing that they aren’t ready to give up. They look to start with TH2 (Angelico & Jack Evans), as Daniels looks to redeem the worst year of his career. If they keep winning, we will see them eventually face old rivals in The Young Bucks.
Belt vs. Career is a common stipulation to elevate any match, but The Young Bucks vs. SCU, with SCU breaking up if they lose? That will feel massive. It could be a PPV main event even, especially if Daniels is able to turn back the clock. It would create a match that can go either way.
This could also be serving as a retirement tour for Christopher Daniels, who holds the role of Head Of Talent Relations in AEW. His best years are behind him, while Kazarian is reaching his prime at 43 years old. So lets not take any of SCU’s next matches for granted, as any could be their last.
