Christian Cage has come clean on his decision to leave WWE and shockingly sign with AEW. This was despite being in Royal Rumble in January this year.
Christian Cage: ‘I Am Coming Back To Prove That I Am One Of The Best’
In an interview on the Oral Sessions podcast, Christian spoke on how he is aiming to make history and not just get a quick payday that many have thought. He said: “I’m coming back to prove that I’m one of the best, in my mind to ever, and I hate saying these kinds of things, but I feel like I’m one of the best to ever do this, and that’s what I was born to do.
“I’m coming back to prove that and to prove to the fans and in a weird sense.” The circumstances surrounding the switch, though, were very intense. At one point, it had been rumoured that Tony Khan’s secret signing was on course to be Dave Batista. But after Dave shut down those rumours, Christian was a front runner. And by all accounts, it all happened out of the blue.
He added: “It all happened really quick. I wasn’t sure I was going to go. All the talks I had were very cordial (with WWE). I had a conversation with Tony (Khan), and it escalated very quickly. It went very fast. Within a week, it was a done deal.”
However, prior to the deal happening, there was a point where Christian thought he might not get another chance. So as a way to be honest with himself, he visited some doctors and checked if he was in prime condition to compete. Coming to terms with a negative response is always difficult, but as for Christian, he received the all-clear.
He noted: “I went in and did the tests. I sat down with the doctor after, and he said, ‘You crushed these tests.’ This was in June. He said, ‘You’re average or above average on all these test scores. [Chirstuan then asked] If you think I’m crazy and you don’t think I should do this, that’s fine, but I need to know.’ He said, ‘I don’t think you’re crazy at all. I think you can do this.”
With his debut already out of the way, Christian can focus on what he does best: dominating in the ring. Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
