It’s not easy to get a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships when The Young Bucks have already beaten you. While they haven’t beaten the duo of Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Mideo, they have beaten Kingston alongside Jon Moxley, and Penta alongside PAC. That’s why tonight, Kingston & Penta need to beat The Young Bucks, and only if they can do that? They earn a title shot.
The Young Bucks Get Even More Ridiculous
Sporting some new goatees, The Young Bucks are looking more ridiculous than ever. Tony Schiavone would say they look like porn stars, an apt comparison. Penta & Kingston would take an early advantage as they isolated Matt and got a near fall off a PK into the Gedo Clutch. Kingston held Matt in place as Penta hit a missile dropkick to the tailbone. Matt still hasn’t gotten his entrance jacket off, but he’d drive Penta into the corner as Nick hit an Enziguri.
Nick would tag in and take control of Penta, until Penta used his agility to slip outside. He caught Matt with a Tilt-A-Whirl backbreaker, Nick with a crossbody, and rolled right to Kingston. Kingston would crush Matt & Nick in the corner before hitting a Fisherman Suplex and a Kitchen Sink knee strike. Matt pulled Kingston outside, and was caught with an exploder before Nick took him out with a kick.
Back in the ring, Kingston would kick out at one before being kicked down in The Young Bucks corner. Kingston would start to fire up and launch off some Kobashi chops to both brothers, but a kick to the knee had him stumble and he’d take a knee to the face. They’d look for More Bang For Your Buck, but Kingston would counter and crotch Nick on the top rope, before battering him with headbutts. A superplex took Nick down the hard way, and Kingston had a chance to make the tag.
Eddie Kingston & Penta El Zero Miedo Do What Few Have Been Able To Do
Penta would tag in and pick the pace up. He’d use a cazadora on Nick to move into a DDT on Matt, before hitting a slingblade and insane Code Red for a count that the crowd claims was three. Not one to let the advantage go, Penta looked for Fear Factor, but was sent into an enziguri. Nick got a diving hurricanrana before a driving knee strike to Penta.
Penta sent Nick into Kingston on a bulldog, before Nick did a handstand in the ropes. A superkick to the face, German Suplex and backstabber got a two count. Matt took Kingston out on the ramp with a crossbody, and in the ring Penta would be hit with a low blow and take the Fear Factor from The Young Bucks, Kingston breaking the pin up.
Good Brothers would come to ringside, and Kingston would absorb a superkick, taking three to put him down. As Good Brothers ran a distraction, Cutler tried to spray Penta with the cold spray, but got Kick instead. Kazarian came to the fight and beheaded Cutler with a lariat. Penta dove over the top rope with a dive to take out Matt & The Good Brothers, before hitting a Fear Factor & Urikan combo to give The Young Bucks their first tag team loss in almost a year.
AEW does tag team matches better than just about anyways, and this one built up perfectly. It started off hot, cooled off a bit as The Young Bucks took control, and that got the crowd to a fever pitch. By the time the finish came, the energy was electric and seeing The Young Bucks taking a big loss? It was too sweet. Match Rating: 4/5 (****)
