The world of adult content was hit hard when OnlyFans decided to ban explicit pictures and videos from the pay per view website. Sex workers and adult performers have made their living from this site when all seemed to be lost. The pandemic gave these streamers a life line, but now it seems that OnlyFans has something else in mind for these content creators.
The announcement came on Thursday, August 19 and the website made the statement that the photos and videos would be “consistent with OnlyFans’ Acceptable Use Policy.” This new policy will begin in October and many sex workers who post on the website are feeling shocked by it all.
OnlyFans Will Be Influencers Only?
After this announcement, many OnlyFans users feel that the website will feature more influencers now and no longer have a safe place for sex workers and other adult content creators. This has many of them in an odd position and in fear of losing their income. There is one content creator, called the Goddess Clue that has opened up more about the content they create and what they are going to do now.
The Goddess Clue posts specialized content featuring foot fetishism and macrophilia. Now she isn’t “really surprised” that OnlyFans is doing this. She had heard rumors of it when new investors were searching for a website like this to buy into.
The Goddess Clue wrote, “The fact that OnlyFans has never acknowledged us sex workers is very telling. They never promoted us and, in my opinion, acted like we’ve never existed on the platform.” There have been a lot of other OnlyFans’ users comment that this always seemed like a safe place for sex workers to make their money and keep their professions a little bit secret.
If you remember, Tumblr did something similar to this when they also pulled the plug on all the sex workers who had been sharing adult content.
OnlyFans did mention, in a statement about the new investors, that they need “to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers.” There are some changes coming to MasterCard policies that could have started this as well.
Now it is up to sex workers to find out if there are other websites like OnlyFans that can provide and safe and confidential place for them to post their adult content. Many sex workers do not want to provide their services on pornography sites, but it looks pretty bleak for them right now.
