We’re back with something I’ve missed in wrestling for some time: proper squash matches! Let’s look at Squash Match Masters Meng and The Barbarian—the Faces of Fear! Originally members of the Dungeon of Doom in WCW, after the Dungeon dissolved the two remained under the watchful eye of “The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart.

Polynesian Powerhouses Pulverize Punks into Powder (WCW Saturday Night 9/7/96)
Before his TV title run, Prince Iaukea teams up with Jim Powers to take on the Faces of Fear in a match where his team got in an alarming amount of offense. I figured it was done with Iaukea being a nimble, plucky youngster and Powers—who looks like a star—being something of a powerhouse himself.
After the tandem diving headbutt on Iaukea, Powers breaks up the pin but is taken out of the match by the Dungeon of Doom’s leprechaun. I don’t remember them having a leprechaun in the stable but there he is, interfering as leprechauns are wont to do.
The camera is so focused on this damn leprechaun that we don’t see how the Faces of Fear finish off Iaukea but they pick up the win.
Tongan Terrorists Totally Thrash Trash Tag Team (WCW 8/24/96)
Holy sh**, Braun the Leprechaun has been around for a year in WCW. Why? Is this necessary?
Anyway, here we have a proper squash with Meng and the Barbarian taking on…well, that date is wrong since I’m seeing that the Faces of Fear was in a six-man tag match but we have them running through two jabronis here.
I don’t even have these guys’ names. The video literally says “Faces of Fear vs. 2 Jobbers”. Sure enough, these are two jobbers and they are getting thrashed. The most vicious thing in this match was that belly-to-belly suplex from the top turnbuckle by the Barbarian.
It was one of those cases of your tag partner going “F*** that sh**” and leaving you to get pinned by the vicious heel tag team.
Faces of Fear vs. Public Enemy (WCW Nitro 9/9/96)
While not a squash, it was a brief match between two brawling tag teams. If you watch the ending closely, you can also see that things get out of the referee’s hands after Rocco Rock’s moonsault does land flush on Meng.
Never mind that the Public Enemy brought in a table-table, Rocco’s knees appear to connect below the belt on the landing. Meng no-sells the table spot, booting Rocco Rock in the face and getting to his feet.
Apparently, the Flyboy is tired of living because he squares up MENG. By this time, their partners get into the action and Barbarian and Rocco scuffle in the corner.
Johnny Grunge is left to his fate with an annoyed Meng who debuts the Tongan Death Grip—my favorite submission hold growing up—and throttles him!
The referee just calls the match on this one.
