Here we are on Christmas Eve 2022 and Mandy Rose continues to dominate most of pro wrestling headlines since her release from the WWE, and it’s for reasons that few may have seen coming.
As many of us know, she was reportedly released from the WWE for having a non-approved third party site with spicy content behind a paywall.
Images from her FanTime page were reported to Shawn Michaels, who runs NXT now that Triple H is in charge of WWE Creative, and she was subsequently fired.
The thing is, her using a site and sharing spicy content isn’t new as many wrestlers use site like OnlyFans to connect with their fans from sharing explicit content, treating it like a fan page, sharing health and workout tips, and so on.
It’s literally given them an option outside of wrestling to make ends meet to take full control of their professional lives and not rely on bookers or volatile company bosses that may fire someone for the slightest thing.
Flexing her power
While there’s no denying Mandy Rose and others owe a good part of their success on these sites to the companies that made them household names, they still have to put in the work to set up shoots and promote their pages.
Even then, it’s not without consequence as the sites reportedly take up to 20% of their earnings and then they have to pay taxes yet as well.
Then there’s the social stigma toward those site and those using them.
But in this case, Rose will be laughing last and best as her manager told TMZ that she made $500k in the week following her WWE release.
That’s a very good chunk of change, and it’s a testament to any kind of publicity can be good publicity.
Raising the stakes
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rose has also increased her subscription fee to cover the loss of her WWE contract.
It looks like she increased the subscription price from $25 to $40, and it wasn’t known or noted whether old subscribers were grandfathered in or will have to pay the new rates.
While she’s making her money, the WWE seemed to attempt some damage control when they faced backlash for her release by trying to claim she asked for her release, according to reports.
They are reportedly open to her returning, and Impact Wrestling has also shown interest, and it’s going to be fun seeing if she wants to return to the ring at some point of continue her current path.
