Renee Paquette on WWE Creative Being Last Minute

We’ve all heard the horror stories about how the WWE Creative team often rewrites the shows as they’re beginning to air to satisfy Vince McMahon, but it’s surprising to hear how often the shows are written yet.

For years, the WWE worked as a seemingly smooth, well piled machine to the point that Bret Hart even said in the book, Hitman, that they would have things planned out months in advance.

Of course, he said that was during the 80s or early 90s and not in today’s WWE, but things were always subject to change.

With every card with every company there’s always the fine print saying “card subject to change.”

This is due to someone being injured, unable to make it, or talent refusing to work a match or a stipulation. That disclaimer give the companies plenty of leeway to cover for anything unexpected to happen.

    Chaos is normal

One of the biggest complaints about the WWE is the lack of storytelling and how their shows feel like they’re slapped together at the last minute and come off feeling like house shows.

The lazy and illogical way WWE Raw often comes across may be for a simple reason: they’re still writing the show when it starts.

Renee Paquette (Formerly Renee Young in WWE) talked about this and how things change at the last second in the WWE.

She worked there for eight years as a broadcaster, and that allowed her to experience things others wouldn’t.

On Throwing Down with Renee and Miesha, she mentioned out the chaotic creative process is normal. Special thanks to sportskeeda.com for the transcript.

“There is times that I’ve gone on the air with Monday Night RAW and the show is not written. It is full being re-done, we don’t know what’s happening. So creative can most certainly change. It happens very often, also the production doesn’t get out until 3pm, and thats on a good day, that’s when things are running smoothly.”

    There’s a reason

It’s no secret the WWE is a show for Vince McMahon’s entertainment and that’s been successful for him.

It also helps explain why the shows are such a mess flow wise and have so many repeat matches, promos, and segments in general without fail.

It’s amazing that anyone can function in such a chaotic system for so long, but that’s part of the creative process. Directors have said movie sets are generally very chaotic, but that’s usually by accident.

In the WWE, is seems like it’s a way of life.
