The Sun has expressed remorse for having featured an article penned by Jeremy Clarkson that was related to Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.
The Sun Newspaper Apologises And Removes Jeremy Clarkson’s ‘Excrement’ Comments About Meghan Markle
In the article, Clarkson expressed his hope that one day Meghan would be made to march nude through the streets while people shout “Shame!” and hurl fecal matter at her.
His words provoked a significant reaction of disapproval, with his daughter Emily Clarkson and numerous other people airing their disagreement with him.
This column has been the subject of a record number of objections, with the Independent Press Standards Organisation registering more than 20,000 grievances.
In addition, over sixty members of Parliament sent a letter to the editor of the newspaper to strongly protest the article. Caroline Nokes, a member of the Conservative Party, wrote a letter insisting that the publisher take steps against Clarkson.
With that being said, the newspaper apologised and removed the article in question. In an official statement on behalf of the newspaper, a representative said the following: “Columnists’ opinions are their own, but as a publisher, we realise that with free expression comes responsibility.
“We at The Sun regret the publication of this article and we are sincerely sorry. The article has been removed from our website and archives.”
The fans on social media, though, were not convinced by the apology. A certain subset of people were of the view that the apology was irrelevant since it was all too little too late.
Meanwhile, others felt that Clarkson should have been the one to issue this statement rather than the newspaper itself. One person wrote: “Too little, too late. @JeremyClarkson should apologise personally.
“This Dinosaur is extinct. He punched a showrunner on the biggest show he’s ever been on because he thought he was special. He was sacked. All he had to do was suck it up and call out for a takeaway. Muppet.”
