Back in 2022, there would be reports of contract tampering in professional wrestling. All Elite Wrestling owner Tony Khan held a talent meeting ahead of All Out, where he brought up an email sent to then WWE co-CEOs Stephanie McMahon & Nick Khan about trying to get AEW talent to break their contracts to join WWE insead. This is just one part of an on-going war between AEW & WWE, and Tony Khan has now given more information.
Tony Khan Speaks On WWE Contract Tampering
While speaking on the The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Khan would discuss the contract tampering that happened in 2022 – saying the following.
“I can’t really comment on what their internal struggles, internal strifes are because I don’t work there and I’m not there. I can only speak to the challenges we’ve had. I’ve got a lot of wrestlers who come to me and allege that WWE reached out to them to tamper with their contracts and ask them to break their contracts. I can’t confirm that specifically. I can only tell you what the wrestlers have come to me and said, but I’ve had multiple wrestlers and staff report that to me. It was very disturbing. I’ve had to go out and try to put on good shows despite this alleged tampering, and stuff like that. Frankly, I don’t think it’s stopped us because the quality of the product and the quality of the shows is at an all-time high right now,”
AEW & WWE “Truly Hate Each Other”
Khan would not specify what talent were contacted by WWE, but we know the likes of FTR have considered making returns to WWE. We can assume that it was names who were released from WWE that were contacted, with the likes of Andrade El Idolo, Malakai Black & Keith Lee all being men who had positive relationships with Triple H from their time in NXT.
Khan would go on to say that AEW & WWE are locked in a real war.
“I think we truly, truly hate each other and I think it makes for really exciting TV and it makes for an exciting wrestling war.”
